We’ve officially been carless now for three weeks. And it has been three weeks of awesome. I do still occasionally look out my window and think for a split-second that someone has stolen our car, but then I remember.
Wheeling the motorbikes out of the garage is so much easier now that I don’t have to maneuver around the car – we each roll our bikes out and line them up next to each other to go out to brunch or wherever instead of taking turns on the non-car-occupied area. We have Car2Go memberships for those times (Friday night sushi for example) we don’t feel like riding downtown and dealing with that insanity, but most everything we do is now done on two wheels or on foot.
It’s liberating, but also strangely old-school. We walk to the grocery. We walk to the movies. We walk to get coffee, to get exercise, to see the neighbors., to go to the gym. Not only is it better for us, it’s better for the environment. And it’s cheap!
Granted, it’s also easy because it’s the nice time of year. But so far, I find that I don’t really miss the car much.
