“Under the ruins of a walled city, crumbling towers and beams of yellow light”
Sting’s lyrics were in my head on repeat as I explored the walled city ruins of medieval Carcassone. I took a train from Alet les Bains (for a euro!) through the vineyards of the Languedoc wine region and had fun exploring both the ruins and the more modern town (which is still old!).
